Sloppy Joes

Ingredients
- ☐2 medYellow onion
- ☐2Green bell pepper
- ☐3 lbsGround beef
- ☐6 oz canTomato paste
- ☐8Hamburger buns
- ☐8 ozBaby Bella mushrooms, sliced
- ☐-Pepper jack cheese, sliced
Ingredients you probably have

- ☐{"qty"=>"1 cup", "item"=>"Ketchup"}
- ☐{"qty"=>"3 tbsp", "item"=>"Yellow mustard"}
- ☐{"qty"=>"2 tbsp", "item"=>"Worcestershire Sauce"}
- ☐Butter
- ☐Olive oil
- ☐Water
Equipment needed
- ☐LargeDutch oven (iron or nonstick)
- ☐~Toaster oven
- Chop yellow onion and finely chop the bell pepper.
- Heat in a Dutch oven:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Ground pepper to taste
- Add yellow onion and bell pepper to Dutch oven.
- Season with salt.
- Fry until onion is translucent.
- Add garlic and fry for about 30 seconds.
- Remove the aromatics from the pan and reserve. Leave the fat.
- Add the ground beef to the Dutch oven.
- Season with salt.
- Break up and fry until browned.
- While the meat is browning, finely chop the mushrooms.
- Add the following ingredients and fry for about a minute:
- Chili powder
- Chili flakes
- Tomato paste
- Add into the pot then mix thoroughly:
- The saved, cooked onion and bell pepper.
- The chopped mushrooms.
- Ketchup
- 1/3 cup water
- Worcestershire sauce
- Cook and stir until the sauce is evenly distributed and thickened.
- Toast buns to desired level of brownness.
- Right before serving, mix in yellow mustard.
- Spoon over toasted buns and thick slices of pepper jack cheese.
